Our Experience and Evidence-based Success

Our success in treatment is based on 30 years of experience with evidence based practice in addiction recovery. We treat each person who comes to us with care and respect, while providing a safe place for rehabilitation. Understanding the individual needs is of primary concern to us, and we tailor our programme to meet these needs. Our treatment philosophy is based on our belief that addiction is a disease and that abstinence is the best way to manage the condition.

We approach treatment in a holistic way, working with mind, body and spirit. We believe that addiction reflects only a part of the person, and often it occurs in the context of other personal or life challenges. Addiction treatment is delivered by our multidisciplinary team of professionals including nurses, psychiatrists, substance abuse/addiction counsellors, psychologists, and complimentary therapy specialists.

Rutland Centre is a 5-week Residential Treatment Programme. During this time, you will stay in our 25 bed Centre in Knocklyon. During your stay, you can have visits from family and friends twice each week and we actively encourage family and ‘concerned persons’ to become personally involved in your rehabilitation by joining a weekly group workshop.

On admission, you will be assigned to a therapy group and to a team of counsellors who explain the treatment programme to you and begin your treatment plan. The Medical Director who is a consultant psychiatrist will also complete a psychiatric evaluation.

Our programme is structured and on admission, you will be given a detailed timetable outlining the events for the day/week ahead. The programme includes;

  • One-to-one counselling and group therapy
  • Personal time for reflection and reading
  • Relaxation, and recreation activities
  • Drama therapy
  • Healthy meals
  • Stop smoking workshops
  • Lectures and therapeutic workshops
  • Time for fellowship, allowing for personal sharing and understanding

In addition, our clinical staff provide daily lectures covering a broad range of topics including psychological, medical, social, and spiritual & Twelve Step work. We also run specialty groups such as relapse prevention, anger, eating issues, women’s issues, men’s issues, assertiveness, Twelve Step group study, family issues and similar specialist topics.

Former clients make a valuable contribution to our programme providing a weekly talk to current clients providing opportunities to listen, share, and receive support and encouragement for your recovery.
