TWO NEW PROGRAMMES AT RUTLAND CENTRE
Dr. Fiona Weldon, has been newly appointed as Clinical Director of Rutland Centre. She is a clinical psychologist who's experience ranges across adult mental health, addiction, dual diagnosis (Co-existing mental health and addiction diagnoses), neuropsychological function, and addictions. She is highly experienced in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and psychosis. Her therapeutic work focuses on the use of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Dr. Weldon has presented research internationally in the area of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Dr. Weldon launches two new programmes to meet the growing demand for services for more complex issues in the area of Addiction and Eating Disorders.
In recent times those presenting for treatment for addiction are also experiencing Depression, Anxiety and other mental health challenges. This is a reflection of the changing landscape in the use of mood altering substances that have an impact on mental health, i.e. cocaine, hash, and headshop substances, etc. Irish research indicates that up to 40% of psychiatric patients have a substance use disorder. Of those who completed suicide in this country, 60% had a substance use disorder (NACD, 2004). At Rutland Centre there has been an icnrease in those presenting with co-existing mental health issues and / or Eating Disorders.
TWO NEW PROGRAMMES:
Dual Diagnosis Outpatient Programme.
An evidenced based intervention responding to those experiencing difficulties with Mental Health and Addiction. It aims to break the cycle of addiction and respond to other co-existing issues in a group content. Programme begins July 2010.
Eating Disorder Programme.
One of the key health issues of our time is Obesity, resulting in many instances from Compulsive Overeating and an obsessional relationship with food leading to many other health threatening issues. Other eating disorders are also on the increase, particularly Bulimia and Anorexia, which are predominated by body image issues and a problematic relationship with food.
A highly specialised group therapy and psycho-educational programme is provided on a residential basis and now a new outpatient group is available targeting stabilisation of eating and increasing skills to manage psychological distress.
